Welcome to this blue nautical nightstand makeover! This is my son’s room which arguably has the most mom-painted pieces of any room in my house. I’ll give you a little tour.
Industrial dresser, rusty fish tank cabinet, desk and night stand.
Most of these were taken in his remodeled room, but the desk on the bottom left was prior to the remodel, so that’s why there is carpet and a different wall color. The desk could also use a different paint color to coordinate better, so you’ll probably see that as a future project.
Here’s what the night stand used to look like, and also his old pirate bedding. They grow up so fast!
Jack is 15 now and his interests are his 4 fish tanks, Star Wars and NFL football. Because of the fish tanks, I thought the Nautical Life transfer would add a little personality to this piece.
Here are the products I used for this project

Making a Nautical Nightstand
I didn’t do anything special to paint over this previously painted surface. I just cleaned it, and painted it with 2 coats of Bunker Hill Blue.
Then I took some of the designs from the Nautical Life transfer and added them to the sides and the drawers. I used the lighthouse on one side, an anchor on the other and some compasses and captain’s wheels on the front.
Believe me, I wanted to use the Kraken! But it was vetoed.
The whole piece is sealed with 2 coats of clear coat satin. Then I used the original hardware, but changed it up using Zinc gilding wax with Silver over it. That’s the same combination I used on the charcoal gray sideboard I did a couple weeks ago, and it has quickly become a favorite.
